Missing e {browser extension for tumblr}: Tumblr's Support Problem with 'Missing e':

missing-e: As many users have observed, Tumblr has recently given users a choice to uninstall Missing e or revoke support for your account.

The reasons they give for suggesting that you uninstall Missing e are the worst-case scenario for installing browser extensions or browser modifications of any kind. However, Missing e is not a source of these kinds of problems.

At worst, Missing e may cause problems when Tumblr makes changes to their interface and Missing ehas not yet been updated to deal with the changes. I usually work very quickly to restore compatibility in these cases.

It is very unlikely that Missing e will cause any data loss. This is especially true of existing posts. Without your interaction, Missing e will not delete anything!

As for privacy, Missing e does not obtain, use or store your email address, password, IP address, search queries or contents of any of your existing posts.

Missing e implements only a small amount of what Tumblr calls page scraping. It is not done regularly, nor is it excessive. The removed features Follow Checker and Unfollower used page scraping a lot more and were taken out of Missing e quite some time ago for this very reason.

All users are encouraged to examine Missing e’s source code to confirm all of the claims I have made!

If you choose to continue using Missing e and want to continue receiving support, you should follow these guidelines:

• If you experience problems with Tumblr, deactivate Missing e in your browser’s extensions list (you can get to this list using the first part of the Missing e uninstall instructions and turning off “Enable” or clicking on the “Disable” button, depending on your browser). If the problem remains, it is most likelynot a Tumblr issue.

• Before contacting Tumblr support, deactivate Missing e. Regardless of whether or not you acknowledged that using Missing e means Tumblr will not provide you with support, if you have it deactivated or uninstalled, it is not running! You will be accurately presenting your issue to Tumblr support in informing them that you are not currently using Missing e.

Note from Ron: Although I haven’t had this pop up yet, in the last 24 hours I finally decided to email Tumblr support and see if we can resolve whatever the issue is so that I can receive support. I currently do not and have not since July. Tumblr has not responded to me or any issues our blogs have had that I bring up, in any way shape or form other than the automated reply emails.
I did get a reply from Marc who in the past, was always nice and helpful. He seemed to be unaware that I wasn’t getting support.

Going through some of the tags on Tumblr, it seems that users are getting the message even on machines/devices which don’t have the plugin installed, which means that Tumblr has tagged users who have installed Missing E on the server side. Basically, people may be getting black-listed from Tumblr Support for using Missing E even if they’re not actively using it and as long as they have installed it at any point, whether they’ve uninstalled it or not since.

A worse scenario is when you may just be borrowing someone’s computer and the browser you use just happen to have the plugin installed. Can a user still be “tagged” for that?

In some of the worst Gawker reporting of all time, America shows the world that it isn’t smart enough to understand that the above images, are not the same as photographs of a terrorist attack in 2001. Gawker using ‘a new twin towers’ is a classless and sad attempt at evoking drama.

Questions: Does anyone really think that this building was intentionally designed to mimic or mock a few seconds of smoke/explosions coming from the World Trade Center buildings? Are there people that think the Dutch design firm is attempting to take a jab at the U.S.A. here? Would this building have been considered amazing and/or beautiful in the year 2000? If it had existed before the attacks, would it then become offensive after the attacks? If an American firm designed a building to be built in the U.S. that happened to resemble a few seconds of a tragedy in a place like Bangladesh, do you think you would ever even hear about it?

The design company actually made a comment:

The Cloud was designed based on parameters such as sunlight, outside spaces, living quality for inhabitants and the city. It is one of many projects in which MVRDV experiments with a raised city level to reinvent the often solitary typology of the skyscraper. It was not our intention to create an image resembling the attacks nor did we see the resemblance during the design process. We sincerely apologize to anyone whose feelings we have hurt, the design was not meant to provoke this.

My favorite comment: (in jest) We should ban all wave pool facilities, since it reminds some people tsunami.

As you might know, specialty batteries can have a ridiculous price tag. You may have heard that it is mostly about branding. You heard correct. For years this has always bothered me. Inside it has the same things in it as say a Lithium Ion AA battery you can buy at the store for only a few bucks. What matters in a battery is shape/connections (will it fit) and the mAh (Milliamp Hour) rating. To keep it short, mAh is how long the battery will last in use. Higher is better.

The image you are looking at is of 3 NB-4L batteries (common in Canon brand cameras). To buy the Canon branded battery it will cost you $62.99 (USD) @Best Buy. Rather than spend that much on having the convenience of an extra battery, I decided to track down the Chinese company that originally manufactured the battery for Canon. I expected it to be marginally cheaper but I admit, I was blown away at just how much cheaper it was for me to buy them. Because of this, I figured I might as well bump up the MaH rating so that they last twice as long and add in a few extras.

3 NB-4L batties with 1400mAh = $5.50 total (free shipping)

1 Canon branded NB-4L with 760mAh = $62.99 (free shipping)

Never ever buy specialty batteries retail if it isn’t an emergency.

Bionic contact lenses—which would display navigation data, personal emails, or any other sort of info superimposed on the world before your eyes—have long been mainstays of science fiction. Over the past several years, researchers have been working to make the tech real-world ready, striving to find solutions to the energy, size, safety, and image-quality problems that come up when you’re trying to fit a tiny integrated circuit into something transparent that sits on an eyeball.

Now, University of Washington researchers and their Finnish colleagues have made the first functioning bionic lens: a prototype with a single LED pixel, which could be safely worn by rabbits in the lab. (The image at right shows a rabbit wearing an earlier version of the lens, which contained a circuit but no light-emitting components.) Radio frequency energy emitted from a nearby transmitter and picked up by a circular antenna a fifth of an inch in diameter, printed on the lens, powered the electronics. The transmitter supplied adequate energy from three feet away when the lens was sitting in a dish, but had to be less than an inch away when the lens was placed on a rabbit’s eye, since tissues and fluids in the body interfered with reception. Since light from such a lens would be too close for the human eye to focus, the researchers made a separate contact composed of an array of smaller, flatter lenses, which would sit on top of the bionic contact and focus the light.

What are these scientists thinking? Haven’t they seen what rabbits are capable of?
